NO MORE DIAPERS!

These were most of our diapers!
The fabulous diaper cake!

It's official....we have just used our last box of diapers from my baby shower back in February. Blake is 5 months old this week and we just finished all the diapers!! Can you believe it? I didn't think they would last that long. Thanks to everyone who pitched in with diapers!! Now it's up to Erik and I to be the providers. Not so fun. I think with all the diapers we received totaled around 700!!! Not only from boxes people gave, but from our fabulous diaper cake at the shower made by my wonderful mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Thanks again!! :)

STUDY BREAK!

So what do you get when you put a room full of 7 dental students together for a study break? AN X-BOX PARTY! Erik and his buddies thought it would be fun to celebrate his birthday again by having some of them over and have a BBQ and watch a movie. So, last night we had a bunch of them over at my parent's house and did just that...but with a little change in plans. I should have known right away that having the x-box out was not a good idea. The crazy thing was that there were only 4 controllers for 7 people...but I guess it's just as fun to watch then to play. So my new found friend Rachelle (also a dental wife) and I kept each other sane while the boys did their thing. It looked to me like they had a good time. I'm just glad they were able to enjoy themselves and be away from their books. Hopefully we can do this again sometime..maybe with a little less x-box!

SWIMMING!!!

You gotta love those cheeks and that little round belly!
I started doing a little swimming with Blake. I think he likes it so far. He hasn't screamed his head off so that was good sign. He hasn't quite mastered his float yet. I think when he can sit up on his own (hopefully soon) he'll be able to enjoy it better. As for right now he just lounges back and puts up with me. Since day 1 he's never been fond of hats, so getting him to keep this one on is a challenge. Distraction is the key! Erik was able to join us for a swim yesterday during his study break which was fun for all of us. The weather was perfect and water was nice. Usually Blake lasts about 30 minutes, then he starts rubbing his eyes and that's my cue....NAP TIME! Hopefully he'll start to enjoy swimming better and become our little fish!

Happy 25th Birthday Erik!

Just before the opening of presents!
So much for watching what we eat! We HAD to have a cheat day...how can you have a birthday with no cake and ice cream?!?! (and a steak dinner I might add).

Well today is Erik's birthday! How are we celebrating you ask? By doing nothing!! Erik's spending a fun-filled day at school followed by coming home and studying! Doesn't that just sound like the funnest birthday! Actually we did the presents and cake thing 2 days ago. He actually had a big test on Monday and after that he was FREE!! (until Tuesday). So Monday was the big celebration and this weekend maybe we'll go to dinner if he can sneak away from the books for a little bit!

My 5K run!

Here's my fantastic running partner!!
So before I had Blake I would run a lot. Now, not so much. I have to build up my endurance again. Since it's been nice in the mornings I've been going with him to a local park to run. It's a lot harder running with a stroller then on my own, but I'm working on it. Yesterday I actually ran my own 5k with him (For those wondering, a 5k is only 3.1 miles). It's not much , but I did it! I won't tell you my time b/c it's pretty shameful, but I did have hills and wind as my obstacles, so I can blame the time on that. :) Eventually I'd like to run a 10k with him (6.2 miles), but I'll just add one mile at a time (if that).

Blake's room is officially done!!!

Of course...the little super star himself!

The room wouldn't be complete without the perfect giraffe nightlight

Not the greatest picture of the giraffe wall hanging but it will do.

The chest of drawers Erik painted with the pedestal. It's so nice to have it a perfect height!

Last but not least...the best part!!! It's not shown in the picture but I found these perfect fitted sheets for the mattress that are a light lime green. Couldn't match any better!

Okay, ever since we moved to Oklahoma Blake's room has been a work in progress. I wanted to do neutral colors so if I need to I can use it for a girl as well with just a few changes. So I chose green and brown and the giraffe for Blake's theme. My mom did a FANTASTIC job making the bedding and making the cover for the chair. We found that chair at a garage sale for $30! It was light oak with baby blue cushions...we saw the potential it had! Nothing a little paint couldn't handle. So Erik spray painted it and my mom recovered it! The chest of drawers were given to us by Erik's parents and Erik just painted it to match the green in the room. He also made the little pedestal for it so it could be taller for us. I did help too, I made the curtains on both windows and made the quilt hanging on the wall. My first wall hanging. I think it all came together perfectly.

Getting So Big!

I do catch him in the act often with his squealing.

Just playing on the floor..there is no more laying him on the couch and walking away anymore. Too much rolling over going on.

The cutest little pajamas from his Aunt Vanessa! I had to take a picture of the cutest part..his little duck feet!

So innocent!

Blake sure changes daily. Everyday he "talks" louder and louder, I think he just likes to hear himself and he loves the attention in public. Personally I think it's kind of embarrassing when he's cooing so loud b/c everyone looks our direction, (and people are probably thinking "can you quiet your child?") but as long as he's happy, I'm fine with it.
We're still working on the whole napping thing. Sometimes he goes down for naps with no problems and other times it's a struggle. He's so curious and he's no dummy, why take a nap when there is so much to look at around? He must have some internal alarm b/c when naps do happen they are usually 1 hour...ON THE DOT!
He had his 4 month doctor appointment this last week and everything was just fine. His stats are now.... Weight= 16 lbs! Height= 24 inches! I knew we wouldn't have the smallest child since Erik and I aren't the most petite couple, but he's healthy and that's all that matters. Also, his little chubby cheeks and legs are to die for! We couldn't ask for anything more!

Looking back....we will be at this weight again (or pretty dang close)!!

This was the first day we met!!
Don't mind the one handed photographer. Just about every picture we took while dating was taken by Erik with the long arms. (no one was ever with us!)

Alright, Erik and I are getting serious (about our weight that is). Since we've been married we've both put on extra baggage that was NOT NECESSARY. We've started the journey of down sizing. We're not only doing it for the weight loss, but to be healthier as well. I purchased a book the other week that focuses on calorie counting and high fiber. These past two weeks I've been on what's called "boot camp" (sounds fun, right?) and it keeps me at a certain number of calories for the 2 weeks, then I move up a notch and add more calories (don't worry, I'm not starving myself, it's actually pretty satisfying) Last week alone I lost 6.5 lbs. and since we've moved here Erik has lost about 10 lbs. Our goals are pretty realistic. I'd like to lose another 15 lbs. and Erik 25. Looking back at our "dating/wedding" pictures has made us realize even more how important it is. So, I'll keep you updated each week on our journey.

Blake is 4 months old today! He's just as happy as ever, laughing and smiling all the time. The laughing even comes when no one is even in the room! It seems like just yesterday we were bringing this little guy home from the hospital!

White Coat Ceremony

TWO future dentists?

The new alma mater: The University of Oklahoma (sorry BYU)

The dental school held a white coat ceremony to welcome the entering class of 2013. After that little welcoming, it was pretty much time to get serious.

Blogging world...Here we come!

Okay, I did it...I finally started a BLOG! Besides the fact I don't know what the heck I'm doing, it's pretty entertaining. Thank you to my wonderfully talented sister-in-law who has helped me become a part of the blog world. Well, I don't even know where to start! For those of you wondering who the little guy is in the picture...that's our happy Blake. He joined our little family on March 3rd of this year. Such a blessing he is, but as Erik likes to say "how can something SO small cost SO much?"
We recently moved from our home of 3 years in Utah to the wide open plains in Oklahoma. Erik started dental school this past week, so this is the beginning of our 4 years here!
I'm obviously still new at this whole blog thing but I think I'll enjoy it.
